Steep angle of approach into golf ball:.

A steep angle of approach basically means that the golf club is above plane. When the golf club moves above plane a loss of power and an out to in swing path can be expected. This movement means that it will be virtually impossible to develop a consistent ball flight pattern.

Typically this steep angle of approach is a result of either the hands completing the backswing inside of back shoulder or from a transition move that is initiated with the hands and shoulders instead of the lower body.

The golf club should bisect the back arm bicep as the club begins to move forward. This will allow the golf club to move on an inside to square path as it approaches the golf ball.

The unwinding sequence to achieve this starts with the lower body moving towards the target during transition. The shoulders will begin the unwinding sequence next followed by the hands and arms.

An excellent drill to help feel the proper angle of approach is the head cover drill. Miss the head cover and you are developing a shallower inside approach.
