The majority of golfers are told to shift their weight to their back foot then shift their weight into their front foot. As far as I am concerned, this is one of the biggest misconceptions and poor advise from a golf swing standpoint. The weight will transfer by the turning motion of the body and the swinging of the arms going back away from the golf ball. However, the golfer must not force this movement. If the movement is forced the golfer will sway off the ball and by doing so will restrict their ability to turn. If you watch the better golfer you will notice that their right hip pretty much turns away from the golf ball during the backswing and does not move laterally. A great way to practice this sensation is to pull your back foot back slightly and to pick the heel up off the ground. Even though you will be standing on your front foot, make golf swings and you will notice how solid you can strike the ball with virtually no weight shift or transfer.
